Clinton Farmers Market not living up to expectations
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 13:52

The City of Clinton opened a new farmers market in downtown Clinton on Saturday mornings this summer and sparce turnout by vendors and customers has caused concern for the Clinton Business Association.

At the Clinton Business Association (CBA) meeting held on Tuesday night, CBA Executive Director Diane Wyatt expressed her disappointment in the farmers market to the board members. Each week the farmers market in Clinton has featured a maximum of 2-3 vendors and very few buyers.

Members of the CBA believe that the lack of success in the farmers market is due to the fact that the city does not have an ordinance restricting vendors from selling their produce at various locations throughout the town during the week. Wyatt says that the CBA is looking to approach the city about developing an ordinance that restricts vendors to selling only on certain days and in designated areas.

Wyatt also discussed other events that will be held by the city of Clinton for the rest of summer and through the fall months:

- Thursday, July 29: Clinton Town Rhythms at 7 p.m. featuring beach music band, The Tams

- Friday, August 20: Youth Rally featuring motivational speaker and former Clemson football player, Perry Tuttle

- Saturday, August 21: Flight of the Dove 2010 (visit www.bikelaurenscounty.com for more information)

- Tuesday, August 24: Presbyterian College Annual Block Party from 5:30-8 p.m.

- Saturday, October 30: Annual Fall Festival and Fun Fest

The CBA members were also introduced to the new local director for the Boy Scouts, Garrett Riddle. Riddle discussed the importance of Boy Scouts and the impact of the program on the youth of Laurens County. The Boy Scout troops of Laurens County will be hosting the 2nd Annual Saluda River District Golf Tournament at Lakeside Country Club on Monday, August 9. For more information about the tournament contact Riddle at (864) 233-2424.
