The Bell Street Middle School White Team faced off against Honea Path Monday night in a makeup game from last Thursday.  In a defensive marathon, both teams were held scoreless through regulation with the Wildcats coming out victorious in the 2nd overtime 6-0.

Bell Street started out strong with an opening drive that took up the majority of the 1st quarter.  The Wildcats relied on the legs of running back #10 O’Kevius Conway, who carried the football six times in the opening drive.  They finished the drive with a 13 yard TD run by Conway that was called back for a holding penalty.  The Wildcats were unable to get back into the end zone and an incomplete pass on 4th down turned the ball over to Honea Path with 1:45 to go in the 1st quarter.

The Cubs had their own offensive woes punting away after their first drive netted no 1st downs.  The punters for both teams continued to exercise their legs for the remainder of the 1st half.

Honea Path received the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and gave the Wildcats an open window as they fumbled the return to give Bell Street the football at their own 49 yard line.  However three plays later they gave the ball back on an interception.

On the Cubs ensuing drive, a bitter sweet 4th down interception by Nike Davis left the Wildcats with the football, but looking at a long field ahead on their own 13 yard line.  Behind Conway and running back Timothy Williams, Bell Street managed to make it to midfield to start the 4th Quarter before a fumble put the ball back into Honea Path’s hands.

As was par for the night, the Wildcats didn’t have to wait long to have possession again.  The Cubs coughed the football up and it was recovered by Bell Street’s Conway.  Over the next drive, Conway saw the football nine times.  With :18 left in regulation, Williams carried the football to the Honea Path 3 yard line.  On a last second effort, the Wildcats went back to the one that they had trusted all night but Conway was stopped short of the goal line as the final buzzer sounded.

Honea Path took first possession in the first overtime starting from the Bell Street 10 yard line.  They were stopped in four plays by the Wildcats who then took their turn from the 10 yard line.  Bell Street fumbled the football on the second play to send the game into a second overtime.

It was Bell Street’s turn to lead things off and on a third down pass from Landon Allison to Conway, the Wildcats put their first points of the night on the board.  After a failed extra point attempt, Bell Street left the door open for the Cubs.  However, that door came slamming shut as Conway picked off a 3rd down pass to end the ball game and finish the win for the Wildcats, 6-0.
