The Lady Wildcats of Bell Street Middle School took on the Lady Tigers of Gray Court- Owings Middle at home Wednesday night and swept back-to-back matches 2-0 and 2-0.

"This was our third doubleheader this week...the girls were really tired," said Bell Street Head Coach Cyndi King.  "But they came into the gym tonight with a lot of energy for some reason," she added.

In game one of the first match, the Lady Wildcats got off to a slow start holding just a one to two point lead over the Lady Tigers.  With the score 11-8 Bell Street's Queena Cunningham went on a serving rally that put her team up 15-8.  Both teams traded serves until Bell Street led 21-13.  The final four points for the Lady Wildcats included an ace and two kills.

Game two of the first match showcased Gray Court keeping the game much closer, tying 9-9 as well as 16-16.  After a seven point serving rally from Ashlyn Hawkins early on the Lady Wildcats opened the door back up for the Lady Tigers and they gladly stepped through.  Gray Court kept the rest of the game close up to 23-20.  With a final ace and kill Bell Street put the first match away, 2-0.

In match two, the two teams started the first game by trading the lead up to 8-8.  That's when Cunningham took another stellar turn serving the ball.  Cunningham put the Lady Wildcats on top 14-8.  Bell Street kept a commanding lead the rest of the game eventually finishing the Lady Tigers off, 25-14.

The second game of match two found Gray Court at a complete loss.  With the score 7-2, Ashlyn Hawkins started serving the ball and did not stop until the Lady Wildcats led 18-2.  The Lady Tigers scored only two more points falling 25-4.

Wednesday's matches left Bell Street 5-1 this week in conference play.  "We had an opportunity to get some younger players in tonight... considering we will only be returning four or five next year that is good.  It gives them some experience," said Coach King.  "We'll work on our setting and there are some girls that I want to get comfortable using an over hand serve again," King said.

The Lady Wildcats next matchup is against Laurens at home on October 12th.
