In an effort to increase their recycling efforts, the City of Clinton Administrative Staff is reminding city residents that recycling bins are available for free by the city and recyclable materials can be brought to the Recycling Center on Gary Street.

According to Assistant City Manager Frank Stovall, the bins can be picked up at the Municipal Center or can be delivered to a home by contacting the Department of Public Works at 833-7520.

Stovall said the city currently collects paper, plastics, aluminum cans and brown and clear glass. He also said that the city would begin collecting cardboard in the near future.

“We’ve been very pleased with our recycling,” said Stovall.

According to the annual report the city has to file with the Department of Health and Environmental Control, in 2009 the city collected over ten tons of glass, two tons of aluminum cans, almost 19 tons of paper and one ton of plastic materials.

The recyclable materials collected are sent to various vendors including Carolina Recycling Group, Greenwood Recycling and Laurens County Public Works.

Stovall said recyclers are asked to separate their recyclables before placing them into the containers at the Recycling Center, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
